Super Mario Bros. Super Show Cartoon Episode 20 – The Pied Koopa
In Pastaland, King Koopa, going under the alter ego of the Pied Koopa, uses a magic flute that he got a hold of to lure the local Mushroom children to his nearby castle.
Shortly after, Mario, Luigi, Princess Toadstool, and Toad arrive in Pastaland, unaware of the Pied Koopa's plot. Toad does not need to remind the Mario Bros. that they would love Pastaland, as pasta naturally grows all over the place. Toad explains that everybody in Pastaland is happy, then leads the group to the town square to introduce Mario and Luigi to the mayor.
Upon reaching the town square, Mayor Fettuccine informs Mario's group on how the Pied Koopa has kidnapped the children. Mouser shows up to deliver a Koopagram stating that Koopa wants all of Pastaland's spaghetti tree crop in exchange for the children's freedom. Mouser then charges Mayor Fettuccine four Gold Coins for the Koopagram, and leaves.
The mayor announces to the town that they must give their spaghetti harvest to the Pied Koopa. Not wanting Pastaland's spaghetti harvest to go to waste, Mario insists that he and his friends will rescue the children by following Mouser to Koopa's castle.
Upon arriving at the castle, the group is spotted by a Koopa Troopa guarding the castle's drawbridge. While they are crossing the drawbridge, the Koopa Troopa pulls a lever, dumping the heroes into the castle's moat. They are attacked from above by Albatosses with Bob-Ombs, and from the shore by Koopa Troopas with spears. Thinking about wanting a submarine sandwich, Mario gets the idea of submerging.
Mario finds a Power Block at the bottom of the moat and uses it to blast a hole in the adjoining dungeon wall. Doing so causes water from the moat to start flooding into the dungeon, bringing Mario, Luigi, Princess Toadstool and Toad with it. Mario and the Princess reassure Luigi that they are safe in King Koopa's dungeon, since he does not know that they are there. The Princess points out that they merely have to exit the dungeon through the door at the top of the stairs to rescue the children, and they will be home free.
Trivia & Bloopers
- In the original version, when Toad says, "And there's Koopa!", King Koopa's mouth is animated as if he is speaking the line. This error is corrected in the Brazilian Portuguese and Latin American Spanish dubs.
- When Mayor Fettuccine gives some Coins to Mouser, they duplicate for a few frames.
- When the army of Albatosses head for Mario's group, one of the Bob-ombs has white eyes instead of the usual red.
- When Mario and his friends swim into the moat towards the Power Block, the nearby bubbles move with them.
- It is implied that the events of this episode are followed up in the episode "Mario and the Red Baron Koopa."
- Mouser's role in this episode is somewhat fitting, as the original Pied Piper story featured rats.
- In the French dub: In the original version, Mario says Pastaland makes him happier than Brooklyn. In the dub, he says it makes him happier than his parents' pizzeria. When spotting the Power Block, Mario does not refer to it by name.

Super Plant (Live Action Sketch)
In Mario Brothers Plumbing, Mario and Luigi are dressed like doctors, doing what they can to keep Mama Mario's dying basil bush alive. Unfortunately for them, Mario concludes that things are grim, and that the only thing he and Luigi can do now is hope and pray. Luigi does not want to have to tell Mama that her basil bush is dying, and Mario states that they need a miracle.
To their surprise, the doorbell rings, and a man who calls himself Dr. Toby enters. Dr. Toby claims that he can tell whenever a plant is in distress, and knew to come over beforehand. He refers to his ability as either a gift, or a curse, and presents Mario and Luigi with his new Super Plant Growth Formula, but warns them that it is in the experimental phase, and that they should follow the instructions "carefully." Mario and Luigi thank Dr. Toby, and he leaves.
As Luigi begins to read the instructions, he notes that only a small amount of formula should be used. Desperate to revive the basil bush, Mario disregards the instructions and sprinkles a massive amount of the formula on the plant.
Later on, Mario calls Dr. Toby to inform him that his plant formula worked "too well." He explains that as a result, the formula transformed the basil bush into Super Plant, which is holding Luigi hostage in an embrace. Relaying advice from Dr. Toby over the phone, Mario tells Luigi to ask Super Plant to let him go; however, that does not work. Mario then tells Luigi to try tickling Super Plant, but that does not work as well, along with teasing it and dancing. Mario then tells Luigi to run, and it works, but Super Plant chases both brothers around the basement, and eventually catches them.
Being held down by Super Plant, Mario and Luigi keep themselves occupied by playing chess until Dr. Toby returns. When he arrives, Dr. Toby is thrilled to see that his formula works, and announces that he has created an antidote to the formula which will shrink the plant back to its original form. As he prepares to do so, Super Plant attacks him, but Mario physically restrains him as Dr. Toby sprays the antidote.
