Super Mario Bros. Super Show Cartoon Episode 16 – Pirates of Koopa
In Pirate Waters, located in Pirate World, Mario and Luigi are in the middle of peeling potatoes onboard a ship. Mario remembers how he, Luigi, Toad, and Princess Toadstool came to be on this ship; while traveling to Princess Toadstool's Castle, they were hired as the crew of the only ship willing to sail Pirate Waters.
Continuing their peeling of potatoes, Mario and Luigi are approached by their captain, Captain Clump and his parrot, Patches, who reprimand Mario and Luigi, saying that they are peeling the potatoes too thin, making them into strings. As Mario explains to Clump that he and Luigi are planning to use the thin potato peelings to make "spatatoghetti", the nearby Toad, who is mopping Clump's ship's deck, accidentally hits Clump on the head with his mop. After Toad hastily apologizes to him, Captain Clump, after telling Toad to watch what he is doing, asks himself why he ever bothered hiring Mario, Luigi and Toad as his shipmates; this prompts Luigi to ask the same question. Captain Clump responds by saying that his previous crew had abandoned him, being too fearful to sail Pirate Waters with Blackbeard Koopa on the prowl.
At the sound of the name Blackbeard Koopa, Mario, Luigi and Toad instantly become nervous and anxious, with Toad saying that they thought they would be safe from King Koopa and his minions on the open seas. In response, Clump says that no one is safe from Blackbeard Koopa and proceeds to look across the horizon with his telescope, which prompts Luigi to use a hollow pipe to look across the sea as well.
As Clump and Luigi survey their surroundings, Princess Toadstool emerges from below the deck of the ship, carrying a tray covered in food; after she exclaims that now would be a good time for a snack, she suddenly says that a storm is brewing. As Luigi claims that the weather is fine, he is suddenly hit with a barrage of rain drops as Captain Clump's ship is enveloped by red colored clouds. As everyone onboard the ship begins to panic, Mario, using a saw, cuts a square in the extremely thick clouds. Now capable of looking through the thick clouds, Mario, Luigi, Toad, Princess Toadstool, and Clump see a horrific sight, the ship of Blackbeard Koopa, with Blackbeard Koopa himself on the deck of it.
Seeing Mario, Luigi, Toad, Princess Toadstool, and Captain Clump, Koopa begins to taunt them and orders Clump to surrender to him. When Captain Clump refuses to do so, though, Blackbeard Koopa orders two of his Koopa Troopa minions to blast Captain Clump's ship. Doing as they are instructed, the two Koopa Troopas load a nearby cannon on Blackbeard Koopa's ship and activate it, launching a Bob-Omb on to the deck of Clump's ship. As Princess Toadstool, Toad and Clump run from the Bob-Omb, Mario grabs Clump's dropped wooden sword and uses it to bat the Bob-Omb right at Koopa's face, knocking him backwards; getting off the deck of his ship, Koopa, enraged, prepares to throw the Bob-Omb back at Mario, only for the explosive to detonate in his hand.
Trivia & Bloopers
- The following errors are fixed in foreign dubs of this episode: After Mario says that he and Luigi are making spatatoghetti, his mouth moves, but no sound can be heard. This also happens with Toad at the end of the episode when he and his friends laugh. When Mario and his friends hit the crow's nest, Captain Clump speaks through Mario's mouth.
- In several scenes, Mario switches between his normal form and his Super Mario form.
- In several scenes, Patches's eyepatch disappears.
- In several scenes, Blackbeard Koopa's ship is colored like Captain Clump's. The inverse also happens to Captain Clump's ship after Blackbeard Koopa's Bob-omb explodes, where it is colored like Blackbeard Koopa's.
- During the intro, the usual rectangle with Mario's face is a star in this episode.
- While tied on the mast, Luigi suggests singing "100 Bottles of Milk," a reference to the traditional counting song "99 Bottles of Beer." In the Latin American Spanish dub, this is replaced by "La sirenita," a song by Mexican musician and singer Rigo Tovar.
- With the Plumber's Log removed from the French dub, and Pirate World not mentioned anywhere else in the episode, this makes the location the episode takes place ambiguous in the French dub. The same is true for the following episode.

Do you believe in Magic? (Live Action Sketch)
Near the medicine cabinet of Mario Brothers Plumbing, Luigi is preparing to give himself a shave, all the while cooking some spaghetti on a nearby tabletop stove. As Luigi stirs his pot of cooking spaghetti, the apartment begins to shake; Luigi is unworried about this though, believing this rumbling to be caused by Mario jump-roping while wearing his boots, who he yells at. It is only when this rumbling stops that Luigi realizes that Mario is not in the apartment, he had gone to the store.
After he remembers this, Luigi, after stirring his spaghetti some more, goes over to the medicine cabinet, which he opens. After opening the cabinet though, Luigi quickly closes it in shock, only to open it again and find Magic Johnson standing there. Surprised by Magic Johnson's appearance, Luigi greets him and learns from Magic Johnson that during a "triple-double-sky-hook-alley-oop-slam-dunk-jam" he broke one of his old high school trophies, which he asks Luigi if he can fix. After hearing Magic Johnson's story, Luigi gladly agrees to fix Magic Johnson's trophy, which Magic Johnson hands to him.
After Luigi gets Magic Johnson's broken trophy, Magic Johnson himself leaves through the medicine cabinet after saying he will be back in a few hours. When Magic Johnson leaves, Luigi goes to a nearby table and sets the trophy down on it while he goes to search for a trophy repair manual to help him fix the broken trophy. After a bit of searching, Luigi leaves through a nearby door, just as Mario enters through another, carrying a bag of groceries.
After closing the door of the apartment, Mario calls for Luigi, telling him he is home as he descends the staircase to the door. Realizing that Luigi is nowhere nearby, Mario looks around and sees a large amount of trash on the table near Magic Johnson's trophy; muttering to himself, Mario gathers this trash and trophy up in his arms and goes to the apartment's furnace, which he throws the trash in, apparently throwing Magic Johnson's trophy in the furnace as well.
Much later, a panicking Mario is using a shovel to remove what appears to be Magic Johnson's trophy, which is heavily burned, from the furnace as Luigi watches him. After Mario removes the trophy from the furnace, Luigi grabs it with a pair of pliers and holds it in place as Mario begins to pound it with a hammer. As Mario hammers the seriously damaged trophy, Luigi suddenly notices that the apartment is rumbling, signifying the arrival of Magic Johnson. Telling Luigi to stay where he is and continue hammering the semi-incinerated trophy, Mario, after grabbing a basketball, opens the medicine cabinet, which Magic Johnson is standing behind. Trying to distract Magic Johnson, Mario tries to show him his basketball skills, only to throw his basketball away by accident. After the incident with the basketball, Magic Johnson asks Mario where Luigi is; hearing Magic Johnson ask this, Luigi tells him that he will have his trophy fixed in a bit. After being informed of this by Luigi, Magic Johnson tells him that he has five minutes to fix his trophy before leaving.
